Distribution d’un frigorigène ayant fui autour d’un véhicule ferroviaire.

Leaked refrigerant distribution around rail vehicle.

Résumé

A distribution of flammable A2L refrigerant leaked from an air-conditioning unit located on the roof of light rail vehicle was analyzed numerically. Steady state simulations were carried out for a matrix of several parameters: leak location, condenser fan operation, and wind direction. Transient simulations were performed for the worst-case scenario. The results showed the leaked refrigerant concentration can exceed the lower flammability limit for an accident type rupture leak. The concentrations were highest when the condenser fans were stopped, but when the condenser fans were running, the leaked refrigerant concentration were safe. The location of leak inside the air-conditioning unit was less important but on the other hand, the wind direction could be an issue. The implication of the present study is that vehicle manufacturers and air-conditioning unit suppliers must work together to ensure safe integration of the systems.
