Process dynamics in an industrial prototype compression/absorption heat pump.

Résumé
The Institute of Energy Technology has developed a compression/absorption heat pump for use in industrial purposes. The heat pump upgrades waste heat from 50 °C to produce hot water of 85-95 °C and cooling water of 5-15 °C. The heat pump has two different operating conditions: day and night operation. At daytime the heat source inlet temperature is around 50 °C, and at nighttime this inlet temperature decreases to around 35 °C. These temperature changes require a flexible control system to handle the fluctuation in the heat pump system. There will be unstable conditions particularly during start-up and shutdown of an evaporator in the dairy, as this influences the heat source inlet temperature. This work presents two different control strategies tested to cope with these instabilities.
