Effet d'un fonctionnement décalé dans le temps pour les refroidisseurs à absorption solaire dans des lieux aux températures ambiantes élevées pour des performances améliorées.

The effect of time shifted operation of solar absorption chillers in locations with high ambient temperatures for improved performance.

Résumé

The use of absorption cooling systems in conjunction with either solar energy or waste heat is not new. Most of these systems use a wet cooling tower to reject the heat to the ambient air. In many arid parts of the world, solar cooling systems with wet cooling tower can not be used because water is a costly commodity. There is a need to develop a new generation of cooling systems that can utilise the low grade thermal energy from solar collectors or waste heat but rejects heat to the ambient using a dry heat exchangers. In most situations, it is possible to operate an absorption chiller system with a dry heat exchanger during the relatively cool night. A system which can collect and store solar or waste heat during the day time and operate an absorption cooling system in the night can work satisfactory. A solar cooling system operating in the time shift mode typically includes a solar collector array, a hot thermal storage, an absorption chiller unit, a cold thermal storage and a control system. This paper examines the control strategies for such a system that time shifts the energy collection and the chiller operation to maximise the overall thermal performance of the system. The effect of ambient air temperature on the overall COP of the chiller unit, the size of the chiller unit and the cutoff temperature at a given the size of the solar collector, hot and the cold thermal storages on the performance of the system is examined for Abu Dhabi in UAE.
