Résumé

In light wells (called "void" in Japan) of high rise appartment buildings, exhaust from kitchens and gas water heaters is sometimes discharged into the corridors, which can pollute the air in the void. Due to the stack effect caused by this exhaust heat, outdoor air flows in through openings at the bottom of the void to the top of the void. The purpose of the study is to explain natural ventilation characteristics and to predict the airflow rate for removing the pollutants in the void.
