Résumé

Application of heat exchangers of very small cross sections, i.e. mini- or microchannels, in heat transfer processes became one of the key challenges of current refrigeration and heat pump technologies. This paper deals with analysis of the effect of capillary pumping in microchannel. The effect of capillary pumping is caused by presence of concave liquid meniscus in microchannel. Two cases are analysed: evaporation of the working fluid at the meniscus only and the second case when bubble boiling occurs at the channel walls along with evaporation from the meniscus. This meniscus creates lower pressure in the liquid phase in comparison with vapour phase. This phenomenon can substantially reduce the resistance of the flow. Exemplary results of the theoretical analysis of the effect of capillary pumping are presented and discussed in the paper.
