Effets des matériaux à changement de phase sur les propriétés des plaques en plâtre à des températures élevées.

Effects of PCMs on gypsum board properties at elevated temperatures.

Résumé

The thermal performance of gypsum boards containing paraffin based phase change materials (PCM) has been experimentally investigated at the temperature range of gypsum dehydration and paraffin melting/evaporation in order to highlight the effects of PCM in the dehydration reactions. For this purpose, a commercially available gypsum board sample containing PCM was subjected to 300°C for one hour. Temperature measurements at preselected board locations indicated the evolution of various physical-chemical processes during the gypsum board heating process, such as free moisture evaporation, transformation of calcium sulphate dihydrate to calcium sulphate hemihydrate and of calcium sulphate hemi-hydrate to calcium sulphate anhydrate. Furthermore, the mass loss and the thermal conductivity of the gypsum board sample were measured as a function of temperature. Results showed a rapid reduction of gypsum board mass at temperatures near 150°C, which is owed to the PCM evaporation. Furthermore, during the dehydration process, where the chemically bound water and the free moisture were evaporated, as well as during the PCM evaporation, the thermal conductivity of the gypsum board was reduced due to increase of the porosity.
