Essais expérimentaux sur un système à coulis de matériaux à changement de phase pour décaler les charges de pointe en conditionnement d'air.

Experimental testing of a PCM slurry system to shift peak air-conditioning loads.

Résumé

A phase change material (PCM) slurry system is proposed for the shifting of peak air-conditioning loads off-peak to decrease peak electrical demand. Design criteria are presented and discussed for a residential application. A bench-scale apparatus was built and tests were conducted to evaluate overall system performance. Subcooling of the slurry mixture occurred during solidification. The system operated very efficiently during the heat absorption portion of the cycle, indicating that it is possible to absorb 30% or more of the peak air-conditioning load. The energy efficiency rating (EER) of the system during heat absorption averaged a value of 154, compared to a typical air-conditioning EER of 10 or 12 to absorb the same amount of energy.
