Résumé

A preliminary design study was conducted to evaluate a R-717/R-134a cascade heat pump using sea water as a heat source. The system was designed to perform a single stage operation in summer, as well as a cascade operation in winter to ensure the high temperature lift. A steady-state simulation model was developed to analyze and optimize its performance. The model contains compressors, expansion valves and heat exchangers. The compressors were analyzed by map-based model, while a condenser, an evaporator and a cascade heat exchanger were modelled by UA-LMTD method with counterflow assumptions of refrigerants. HFCs other than R-134a were also examined as a working fluid. The simulation results show that the R-717/R-134a cascade heat pump exhibits best performance among combinations considered in the study. The proposed R-717/R-134a cascade system is expected to bring a COP of 5.5 in summer along with a heating COP of 3.5 in winter
