Résumé

On the actual context of environmental major concern, the use of ammonia as a refrigerant is regaining interest. Isothermal containers autonomously refrigerated with thermochemical systems using ammonia offer a promising solution for temperature regulation during transportation of thermo-sensitive products. Working as thermal batteries in a reversible manner, these systems can theoretically endure large amounts of charge/discharge cycles while maintaining performance. Unfortunately, not many experimental aging studies are available.
After briefly introducing the working principle of thermochemical systems, we present their simplified modeling. The latter is used as reference for comparison between expected and measured performances of the system. Then, our study focuses on the cyclability of the whole system with 2 to 3 charge-discharge complete cycles a day. Performances of the system have been checked every 300 cycles. After more than 1200 accelerated aging cycles, the system still performs within +/- 10% of the targeted values.
