Résumé

Adsorption desalination is a promising desalination technology due to two aspects: 1) cogeneration of distilled freshwater and cooling; 2) efficient utilization of low-grade waste heat and renewable heat sources. The present study aims to develop an adsorption desalination prototype with performance enhanced by heat and mass recovery scheme. The heat recovery process is serial type via cooling water between two beds and the mass recovery process is implemented by a vacuum valve between two beds. The prototype is manufactured and experimentally studied. Judging from the heat transfer fluid temperature curves, the adsorption desalination prototype can periodically operate in perfect situation. The results indicate that water production and cooling power are 6.81 kg h-1 and 4.35 kW, respectively, under the conditions of 80/20/15 °C hot/cooling/chilled water inlet temperatures. The corresponding specific daily water production and coefficient of performance are 5.84 kgwater-1 kgadsorbent-1 day-1 and 0.380, respectively.
