Résumé
Among thermal energy storage systems, the salt hydrate based solid-gas adsorption thermal battery, also known as the sorption thermal battery, shows great potential due to its high thermal energy storage density (ESD), and easily achievable operating conditions. In this study, lithium hydroxide monohydrate is employed as an adsorbent due to high ESD, while impregnated into porous matrix such as Expanded Graphite (EG) and Zeolite13X to prevent deliquescence. The water vapor adsorption isotherms of the adsorbent are examined using DVS measurements, and DSC analysis is conducted during the dehydration process to investigate the ESD of composites. The LiOH@EG 90 wt% (LiOH 90 wt%, EG 10 wt%) and LiOH@Z-13X 15 wt% (LiOH 15 wt%, Zeolite13X 85 wt%) composite exhibit the highest ESD of 1935.78 kJ/kg and 2219.21 kJ/kg, respectively. However, when the compressed LiOH@EG composite is assessed on a bulk scale, a nearly halved water uptake is observed. This suggests that the bulk-scale ESD significantly differs from the particle-scale ESD when practically scaling up the composite. To assess this aspect, the hydraulic permeability of each composite should be considered. Considering both ESD and hydraulic permeability, it is confirmed that the LiOH@Z-13X 15 wt% emerges as the optimal pair.
