Résumé
When a room air conditioner (RAC) operates for indoor space heating during winter, periodic reverse cycle defrosting (RCD) is necessary for frost removal. This paper presents an experimental investigation of the transient refrigerant distribution and dynamic characteristics during RCD of a RAC. The results showed that 81.6% of refrigerant was distributed in the outdoor heat exchanger when the air conditioner changes from heating mode to defrosting mode. After restarting the compressor, the refrigerant was initially migrated to the indoor heat exchanger. Then the refrigerant mass in the compressor and accumulator (C/A) started to increase rapidly, which was caused by the limited amount of heat stored in the indoor coil metal. At 140 sec, wet compression occurs in the compressor and continues until the end of defrosting. Wet compression increases the noise of the system and reduces the reliability of the compressor. The results can provide favorable guidance for the optimization of defrosting strategy.
