Résumé

The characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop in plate heat exchangers for absorption refrigeration applications are studied experimentally and numerically. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation results are compared with the experimental results. A commercial CFD software package, FLUENT has been used to predict the characteristics of heat transfer, pressure drop and flow distribution in plate heat exchangers. In this paper, a welded plate heat exchanger with the plate of chevron embossing type is tested by controlling mass flow rate, solution concentration, and inlet/outlet temperatures. The working fluid is H2O/LiBr solution with the LiBr concentration of 50-60% in mass. It is found that the solution temperature difference decreases with increasing the mass flow rate up to 1.8 kg/s, after then it increases due to the flow pattern change from laminar flow to turbulent flow at the given mass flow rate. It is also found that the temperature difference increases almost linearly with increasing the number of plates while the pressure decreases with increasing the number of plates for a given mass flow rate. It is concluded that the chevron embossing type gives a better heat transfer performance than the elliptic embossing type under the same geometric and thermal conditions. These results provide a guideline to apply the welded PHE for the solution heat exchanger of absorption systems.
