Résumé

Fin and tube heat exchangers are utilized in vapour compression systems to exchange heat with the environment. Refrigerant flow through heat exchangers causes the environment to be cooled or heated, depending on the application. When fluids in heat exchangers experience a significant temperature difference, neighbouring tubes at different temperatures conduct heat through the fins, which leads to a performance degradation of the heat exchanger and the system as a whole. Introducing fin cuts, which eliminate the tube to tube conduction through the fin, has been shown to enhance the capacity of the heat exchanger. Including heat exchangers with fin cuts in vapour compressions systems will enhance the system's performance. A genetic algorithm has been used to determine the optimum location of fin cuts to maximize the performance of the heat exchanger. This effect has been investigated at the system level in a carbon dioxide system. This paper describes the system investigated and demonstrates the enhancements possible by including heat exchangers with fin cuts in vapour compression systems.
