Résumé

Domestic refrigerators are one of the main electrical consumers at home due to their continuous operation. This article investigates the performance of sodium chloride saltwater solution (NaCl - H2O) with a phase change temperature of -21.2 °C in a domestic refrigerator. Two PCM containers of 1.5 and 5 liters were used to evaluate the PCM thermal response during the solidification and melting phase. For 1.5 liters of PCM, the temperature in the compartment was maintained for 2.5 hours below 4 °C. The latent heat region lasted for 6 hours. For the 5 liters PCM, the temperature in the compartment was kept below 4 °C for the duration of the latent heat, which was 20 hours. With the current configuration, 55 kJ of energy is used to charge the PCM, which is 3.402 kWh per charge. During the discharge phase, 80 kJ of energy is released into the compartment for less than a day, which will save only 0.567 kWh every 6 days.
