Résumé

Vapor compression cycle Heat Pumps (HP) driven by Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and so called HP-ORC are able to provide both heating and cooling for domestic applications. Recently, an oil-free Compressor-Turbine Unit (CTU) in a HP-ORC has been investigated in which the radial ORC turbine and the radial HP compressor are running on the same gas bearing supported rotor. This paper presents the performance assessment of an HP-ORC system compared with other Thermally Driven Heat Pumps systems. Based on reduced order models, the HP-ORC cycle and its optimized CTU, running with R134a, has been analyzed for different operating conditions, and then compared with different absorption HP technologies. It turns out that HP-ORC systems are of great interest since they are highly flexible, offer a wide operation range and higher peak performance compared to absorption cycles. Scaling effects and performances of the CTU are investigated and presented in this article as well.
