Expériences acquises dans le fonctionnement des systèmes à faible charge en ammoniac dans la chaîne du froid.

Operating experiences of low charge ammonia systems in the cold chain.

Résumé

The continuing phase out of HCFCs has presented an opportunity for the use of ammonia in smaller systems than were traditionally considered suitable for this industrial refrigerant. This presents an opportunity for end-users to take advantage of the unusual properties of ammonia, but to enable these systems to be deployed in place of small to medium sized HCFC plants they must be fully automated, low maintenance and leak-free. This paper presents several case studies of industrial cold storage plants which use low charge ammonia systems, explaining the ways in which the plants have been designed to make the substitution of HCFC systems as simple as possible. The paper identifies the size and scope of system which are most suited to this technique and includes feedback from the system operators.
