Résumé

Transparent or clear ice is pleasant from an aesthetic point of view, but to develop simple and reliable technique for transparent ice production in still water under the conditions of a conventional household refrigerator was always considered as a very challenging task. Conventional water purifying systems installed in household refrigerators could capture practically all impurities, but not dissolved air which was found to be the main reason for opaque ice formation. Influential factors for ice transparency such as water treating conditions and supply methods, ice tray designs and materials, heat removal peculiarities, water vibration and some other factors were practically verified for conditions of conventional refrigerator in tests with different designs of icemakers. Images of ice pieces, received according to conventional and newly developed procedures, were presented and compared. Perfect transparency was achieved when water had frozen in an aluminum ice tray with specifically operating point heaters located above water level.
