Formation de givre sur un serpentin de refroidissement dans de l'air d'entrée sursaturé.

Frost formation on a cooling coil in supersaturated supply air.

Résumé

This paper proposes a model for pressure drop and heat transfer of cold-room cooling coils with supersaturated supply air. The model predicts the frost formation and the resulting increase in pressure drop and reduction in heat transfer for a coil. The model has two aspects, the heat exchanger model and the frost model. The heat exchanger is modelled based on distributed parameter principles. The frost is modelled based on layer-averaged energy and mass conservation equations for the frost layer. The airflow is considered as two-phase particle-laden flow, with saturated air as the carrier gas and the suspended ice crystals as the dispersed particles. The paper includes a comparison of results from model simulations with experimental results generated with a flat-finned coil. Reasonable agreement was obtained between the numerical and experimental results, particularly for low temperatures (below -12°C).
