Résumé

In some industrial and medical applications there is a need to operate below ordinary freezer temperatures, at or below -45 °C, while using a closed indirect system. There are a number of nonaqueous heat transfer fluids with low viscosity that can be used, including liquid CO2. Three types of aqueous solutions are presented as possible options, methyl alcohol, ammonia and lithium chloride, although each of these have some negative sides. The paper focuses on how these three aqueous solutions compare with the non-aqueous fluids and liquid only or phase changing carbon dioxide as secondary fluid.
