Heat compression phenomena in ammonia refrigeration systems.

Résumé

The main function of intercooler in a compound system is to cool the discharge ammonia vapor between stages. This is usually done by bubbling process through a bath of liquid ammonia and inevitable pressure losses occur. Slugging is the most dangerous and frequent break-downs with the high-stage reciprocating ammonia compressors. The direct contact evaporating cooling device (two phase jet apparatus) with the heat compression effect has been used instead of the bubbling open (or closed) type intercooler. Classification of two phase jet apparatus with mandatory phase change, also two-stage ammonia refrigeration cycle with thermopressor for intermediate cooling and corresponding piping diagrams, namely: for a single unit, for several compressors with common intercooler in compound system and for temporary low temperature supply have been shown.
