Résumé

The solar gain and building cooling load are assessed with a building thermal environment model. It is concluded that shading by adjacent buildings in a typical configuration of building site brings about significant reduction in the building cooling load, whereas the presence of reflective facades leads to a slight increase in cooling load compared with the case of having shading alone.
