Résumé

The application in Italy of the European Directive 2002/91/CE, about the energy performance of buildings, through the Dlgs.192/05 and Dlgs.311/06, provide for the energy certification in building. About summer air conditioning, any zoning of Italian territory does not exist yet: as a consequence, a given building cannot be classified on the basis of its energy need and geographical position. The definition of a Climatic Severity Index for the summer season is more complex with respect to the winter case: indeed, given the combined effect of the different climatic variables the analysis of the energy performance of a building must be carried out on an hourly time basis. Starting from a cluster analysis of climatic data of Italian provincial capitals, have been selected 20 towns, characterized by different climatic profiles and statistically representative of Italian climate. Subsequently, for two benchmark buildings, residential and office, was carried out an evaluation of cooling energy need through a dynamic simulation software taking into account the mainly influential aspects in the energy balance of buildings such as location, thermal insulation of the envelope, mass of structure, distribution and area of glass surface, and orientation. The analysis of the results has highlighted the opportunity to express the energy need as a function of the climatic variables: in this way, an index able to subdivide the Italian territory into summer climatic zones has been derived. Climatic Severity Index has been extended to every Italian towns according to the climatic data given by the standard UNI 10349 /94.
