Installations cryogéniques de grande puissance aux températures de l'hélium liquide pour les grands projets.

High power cryogenic refrigeration at liquid helium temperatures for large projects.

Résumé

Large projects such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN Geneva, Switzerland, TESLA, or the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), need very big amounts of refrigeration at temperatures ranging between 80 and 1.8 K (a few tens of kilowatts equivalent power at 4.5 K). These plants have to run uninterrupted for long periods and the number of people working on such large systems is important. Consequently, the grid power required to feed such systems range from 30 to 70 megawatts. The designer's challenge is, on the one hand, to cope with high reliability, efficiency and flexibility and, simultaneously on the other hand, low investment, maintenance cost and operating manpower.
