Système cryogénique pour le cyclotron supraconducteur K-500 à Calcutta.

Cryogenic system of the K-500 superconducting cyclotron at VECC, Calcutta.

Résumé

A K-500 superconducting cyclotron of is presently under construction at the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre at Calcutta. It is expected to be completed around 2001 AD. The machine is planned to operate with an Electron Cyclotron Resonance ion source. Apart from utility in basic sciences, it will find applications in diverse fields like cryogenic technology, radiation damage studies, etc. The technological spin-offs are immense and will provide expertise in superconducting coils in different fields. The cryogenic features of the cyclotron include cool-down phases, operation under steady state, recovery in the case of quench and warm-up when required.
