Résumé

The article relates the topics of this conference, held on December 1-3, 1998, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Attention was paid to the role of transportation in global warming and on the share of transport refrigeration in the emission of greenhouse gases. A responsible combination of energy efficiency and good handling practice for goods and materials will be essential for the transport industry to ensure the continuity of its good services in providing safe food, preventing wastage of produce and developing world trade.
