Résumé

Economic aspects of the production of orchids for cut flowers, principally in Thailand, for the North American and European markets are discussed. Anthuriums and orchids together constitute only 1.6% of total cut flower imports to these continents, due to factors including high transport costs, pricing policies and distribution problems. Opportunities for growers and ways of overcoming the problems discussed are outlined.
