Résumé

The building, housing offices, seminar rooms, a 130-seat lecture theatre and catering facilities, takes Swedish building techniques and hardware and demonstrates that they can be used successfully in the UK climate to provide a low-energy building with no air conditioning. Features are a well-sealed heavy structure with Swedish argon-filled 2 plus 1 glazed windows th low-emissivity glass and manually operated venetian blinds inside the outer plane and a trickle ventilation route from outside. In addition the Termodeck concrete hollow-core slab system forms floor slabs in which the primary air is circulated through the cores. In summer the night air cools the slabs which by day cool the building and in winter it is warmed as it passes through the cores. Gives details of lighting, controls and costs.
