This document, published in the centennial framework (1901-2001) describes the history of NIST: the founding, the industrial age, the roaring twenties, the depression (launching of research on cryogenics), World War II, postwar years, the space age, energy and environment (saving the ozone layer), new directions and promoting economic growth. To note: launching in 1989 of the database of the thermophysical properties of alternative refrigerants REFPROP.
