Résumé

District heating and cooling is commonly used for air conditioning in Europe, and is widespread in the US and East Asia. After the initial large capital outlay required for installation, these systems are highly energy efficient. Yet there are no known systems in Australia. Is it time for district heating and cooling here? A look at how the systems are used overseas offers some clues as to why the technology has yet to be applied in Australia.
