Résumé

These proceedings contain 28 papers presented at this symposium, organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Walchand College of Engineering on the occasion of its 50 years Golden Jubilee celebration. Contents: Stirling cycle cooling systems for non-CFC refrigeration; alternatives to CFCs for AC&R; challenge of new refrigerants for AC&R industry in India; orbital vane rotary machine to be used for mobile AC&R; bus air conditioning; new developments in AC&R compressors; vapour absorption machines; sealed/semisealed compressors; mechanical refrigeration systems for process industries; cryogenic applications in indigenous spacecraft; recent trends in cold storage practice; thermo-electric refrigeration; economical cold storage for farmers; vapour absorption system run by bio-gas and solar energy; heating and cooling utility of domestic refrigerator; application of vortex tube in metal cutting operation; alternate refrigerants need for handling safely; computer-aided investigations of a two-stage cascade refrigeration system using alternative hydrocarbon refrigerants; computer-aided investigations of Claude liquefaction system for nitrogen, oxygen and air; development of orifice pulse tube refrigerator; "Kapok" as insulating material; thermoacoustic refrigeration; environment friendly refrigeration systems; Indian refrigeration industry and the Montreal Protocol; development of heat pump for the purpose of water heating using atmospheric air as a low grade heat source; economic use of refrigerants; performance of refrigerators with alternative refrigerants.
