Outlines the advantages of cooling from district heat using absorption chillers, both for increased sales and environmental protection. Describes two pilot plants with a new type of absorption chiller operating with water-lithium bromide operating in a single effect/double lift process. Illustrates the scheme and integration of one of these chillers and explains their operation. States the first operating experience of the plant, in Berlin since August 1996 confirms theoretical investigations.
