These proceedings contain 11 papers presented at the seventh one-day annual conference of the British Institute of Refrigeration, co-sponsored by the IIR and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers held in London, United Kingdom, November 17, 1998. Contents: enforcement of R22 phase out; strategic planning process in the removal of R22 from cooling and refrigeration plants in Royal Navy warships; benefits of refrigerant inventory control; options and praticalities of retrofitting existing direct-expansion refrigeration systems operating on R22; replacing R22 in existing air conditioning, heat pump, flooded and pump circulation systems; replacing R22 in existing direct-expansion liquid chillers; available alternatives and the resulting requirements on component and system design; options for new industrial refrigeration equipment and for new packaged air conditioning systems. Some of the articles will be abstracted in a future issue of the IIR Bulletin.
