Résumé

Chilled beams are low-cost convection HVAC systems with some important advantages compared to traditional fan coil units. For dimensioning such a system, the cooling or heating capacity at specific environmental and operational conditions needs to be accurately determined. This paper deals with the measurement and modelling of chilled beam heat exchange capacities in order to predict the system’s efficiency. The capacity depends on many variables such as beam length, nozzle type, heat exchanger geometry, water flow rate and its inlet temperature, room temperature, primary air flow rate, etc. Almost 160 capacity measurements have been conducted at the Grada International lab to determine all necessary model parameters. The measurement and model quality have finally been verified by validation experiments conducted at an internationally (Eurovent) certified lab. The results confirm not only the measurement quality but also the accuracy and prediction power of the established chilled beam capacity model.
