Résumé

It is important to remove excess humidity that causes a decrease in indoor air quality (IAQ) in detached houses. One possible method discussed for removing this excess humidity is desiccant air-conditioning. However, there is a lack of existing examples of installed desiccant air-conditioning systems for detached houses. Thus, the motivation of this study is the development of a batch-type desiccant air-conditioning system for a detached house. We installed a prototype system in a detached house in Sapporo Japan in 2011. The system has two silica gel tanks with cooling and heating coils in each. One tank is used for air-conditioning while the other tank is used for the regeneration of its silica gel. We switched the role of the two desiccant tanks on a controlled schedule. This proposed system has two operating modes: dehumidification-cooling and humidification-heating. We carried out two experiments to check the basic performance of this system in different outdoor conditions (summer and winter). The summer experiment confirmed that it was possible to dehumidify air ~ 8 g/kg (DA) in high humidity outdoor air. In addition, the cold water recovered adsorption heat under these conditions. The winter experiment confirmed that the system worked as a heating unit and humidifier without a water-supply pipe with ~25% of sensible heat supplied into the desiccant tanks by the heating coil changed to latent heat.
