Résumé

The HIE-ISOLDE project (High Intensity and Energy ISOLDE) was staged in three phases out of which two were approved and financed. It reached an important milestone in 2018 with the completion of the second phase of the energy upgrade. The deployment has followed the production plan of the cryo-modules : each year starting from 2015 a cryo-module was added and connected to cryogenic distribution system thus reaching in 2018 four high-beta cryo-modules that can accelerate radioactive ion beams up to 10 MeV per nucleon for the heaviest isotopes available at ISOLDE. After three yearly partial commissioning periods, the final commissioning of the helium cryogenic system was performed, followed by two operation periods interrupted by a long shutdown. The present paper focuses on the results of the commissioning and first operational experience, highlighting the main technical issues that arose, the limitations of the present system and possible improvements in the future.
