Résumé

CSIRO Energy Technology has developed a combined power and desiccant cooling (trigeneration) technology for low greenhouse gas emissions building air-conditioning and heating. The trigeneration system uses a 60 kWe micro-turbine for power generation, and the desiccant wheel is regenerated directly with micro turbine exhaust heat. It was installed in a public library in Sydney and has been in operation since April 2004. A simulation model has been developed to understand system performance and the impact of ambient conditions on temperature and humidity profiles, heat and cooling loads, gas and auxiliary power consumption, power generation and greenhouse gas emissions. Modelling was undertaken using the simulation software tool TRNSYS which allows simulation of performance with changing weather conditions over the year. This paper presents results from a parametric analysis performed on the trigeneration system with regard to varying inlet conditions on the fresh air side. The model showed that the magnitude of fresh air dehumidification over the desiccant wheel is strongly influenced by the fresh air humidity but is quite independent of the dry bulb temperature. Similarly, the maximum achievable cooling power was more dependent on the ambient humidity than the ambient temperature. The COP is highest at both high relative humidity and temperature, which underlines the application of desiccant cooling in hot and humid climates.
