Résumé

The heat released during the adsorption of water vapor in a silica-gel desiccant wheel is detrimental to the adsorptive capacity, since it concurs to increase the desiccant material temperature. The increase in temperature is a consequence of the increase in internal energy, since each individual wheel micro-channel can be regarded as an adiabatic volume control . It has been proposed that, if the adsorption could be carried out isothermally, rather than adiabatically, it would result in increased adsorptive capacity. Accordingly, the present work proposes a two-stage desiccant rotor, in which the wheel surface area is divided into quadrants, allowing for two different zones to be climatized.
