Résumé

The mixture of water, a freezing point depressant – like ethanol, glycol or sodium chloride – and small ice particles is called ice slurry. It’s a two-phase heat transfer fluid with many positive properties. One characteristic property is the buoyancy of the ice particles in the fluid. This leads to ice separation in unmixed ice slurries. Based on this aspect, the density modification of the ice particles has been investigated. The basic idea is to use additional particles with higher density than ice, which should act as ice forming nuclei during ice generation. Suitable particles have been determined and tested. It could be investigated that the added particles didn’t all act as ice forming nuclei in the purpose of a cell nucleus. Furthermore, it can be assumed that various particles agglomerate on the surface of ice particles. It also could be shown that the density of the ice particles increased more than expected due to the incorporation of several nuclei in each ice particle. These modified ice particles sediment to the bottom of the container due to the high density of the numerous heavy particles.
