Résumé

As the global heating/cooling demand is increasing, decarbonisation of the heating/cooling sector has become a priority for achieving the goals set for 2050. Latent heat storage (LHS) using phase-change materials is a key technology for increasing the proportion of renewables in the energy mix and for increasing flexibility in sector-coupling applications. While many PCMs are available, the need for sustainable and bio-based ones increases. This study presents recent insights into the polymorphic behaviour of a model triglyceride, tristearin, under dynamic heating/cooling conditions to understand and eventually control its polymorphism. Systematic filtering studies in combination with thermal studies were conducted to evaluate the influence of impurities, pressure and filter pore size on polymorphic transitions. A wide variety of analytical techniques was employed, with a particular focus on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis.
