Résumé
This work is focused on the energy consumption optimization of two refrigeration systems working with CO2 as a refrigerant. The two systems characterize distinct application conditions for light commercial appliances: Low Back Pressure (LBP) and Medium Back Pressure (MBP). The performance was evaluated by comparing the energy consumption of the systems to the original HFC system. The charge, capillary tube length and diameter were adjusted to provide minimum energy consumption to the system at 32°C ambient temperature. Regarding the MBP system, a comparative study of the effect of a microchannel gas cooler was also investigated. The MBP was tested under 24, 32, and 40°C room temperatures. The results showed a 24% lower energy consumption for the CO2 compressor, both configurations used the same heat exchangers. When using microchannel gas cooler, the C02 system provided 36% of energy savings. The LBP system demonstrated that energy consumptions at 24 and 18°C room temperature were lower than for the HFC system, 4 and 27% respectively, at 32°C slightly 2 and 10% higher at 40°C.
