Physique de la mesure précise des basses températures.

Physics of accurate measurement of low refrigeration temperatures.

Résumé

This paper discusses the physics of accurate measurement of low refrigeration temperatures down to -37°C, where three sources of errors have been identified: thermodynamics of the thermocouple, transmission and the voltage. The results of numerical modelling show that temperature error due to radiation and conduction losses can be as high as 2.1 K, but further analysis reveals that the error is limited to 0.34 K. Errors due to transmission and voltage measurements have been quantified by calibrations. The overall uncertainty in the temperature measurements is between 0.02 and 0.36 K. It is proposed to reduce the uncertainty by averaging, shielding the thermocouple cables and simplifying the T junction's geometry.
