Résumé

Notes the great success of chilled ceilings, with over 1 million m2 installed in Germany alone. Describes an alternative system where treated supply air is first directed through a system of internally-finned 60-80 millimeter diameter aluminium cooling pipes embedded in the concrete ceiling. Air is then introduced into the room through displacement air outlets near floor level. There is complete separation of cooling, achieved by the ceiling and displacement ventilation, and heating, which is by panel radiators beneath the windows.
