Résumé

The author presents the potential for energy savings from increased use of current heat pump technology. The article identifies the established as well as the emerging markets for heat pumps with reverse cycle systems for air conditioning, the largest existing market. It notes the potential market for ground-source heat pumps for commercial buildings as well as replacing electric heating systems in dwellings. It also gives figures for the potential residential market and barriers to overcome.
