Predicting performance of an adsorption refrigerator using carbon and ammonia in a forced convection cycle.

Résumé

A patented cycle has been developed that uses heat transfer intensification to produce a heat pump/chiller with good thermal regeneration to reach a high COP. It uses circulation of refrigerant gas through the bed of granular adsorbent to transfer heat between the bed and the heat exchangers. A bed of granular inert material is used to store useful heat from the cooling phase for use in the heating phase. The cycle has been modelled numerically and a laboratory machine has been constructed to test the cycle. Results from computer predictions are presented here.
