Résumé

Despite the advances in computing power, simplified approaches for predicting the thermal loads are still of great interest since these can be readily implemented in computational-tools, like a spreadsheet. The simplified method of Mackey and Wright (M&W) predicts the rate of heat transfer through the indoor surface of a wall. It involves non-negligible error in case of envelops having significant thermal inertia undergoing non-sinusoidal excitations. This study presents results of a simplified approach that considerably improves the accuracy of M&W method. The approach is based on weight-averaging two approximate solutions. One is obtained by considering the actual excitation and another one considering a sinusoidal fit of the actual excitation. In order to evidence the improvements of the proposed approach, case studies focused on the prediction of heat gains of low and high mass external walls are investigated.
