Résumé

On the basis of ab initio and Monte Carlo simulations the influence of the strength of the magnetic exchange parameters on the inverse and conventional magnetocaloric effect in Ni(50)Mn(34)In(16) Heusler alloy using the mixed Potts and Blume-Emery-Griffiths model Hamiltonian is studied. By the help of the proposed model the temperature dependences of the magnetization, tetragonal deformation, and adiabatic temperature changes for magnetic field variation are obtained. It is first shown theoretically that a decrease of the magnetic exchange interactions in Heusler alloys with metamagnetostructural phase transition (for example Ni-Mn-Y system, where Y = In, Sn, and Sb) leads to increasing values of the magnetocaloric effect. The authors suppose that a reduction of the exchange interactions in Ni-Mn-Y alloys can be realized by the doping with nonmagnetic atoms such as B, Si, Zn, Cu etc.
