Résumé

This report is the result of the work of the Task Force, which met in Boulder, USA, January 2004, and in Washington, DC, April 2004. After having presented an overview of the different chiller types and the capacity ranges for each of those chillers, the report presents details on centrifugal, screw, scroll, reciprocating and absorption chillers. It summarises information on all chillers but concentrates on CFC chillers, which are normally of the centrifugal type, installed until the midnineties in the Article 5(1) countries. Four ongoing programs are described for the replacement of CFC chillers in Ivory Coast, Thailand, Mexico and Turkey as well as three case studies for India, Brazil and the People's Republic of China, describing the composition of the centrifugal chiller market, the CFC inventories, the emissions and the servicing needs compared to the total servicing needs for refrigeration. Extract from the table of contents: chillers (types, applications, industry overview, current technical options to minimise CFC requirements, trends in energy efficiency); global CFC chiller inventories; chiller refrigerant use (production and shipments, chiller charge, charge per unit capacity, average cooling capacity); environmental impact (refrigerant emissions, energy efficiency, overall climate change impact); incentives and impediments to chiller transition out of CFCs; CFC chiller projects in Article 5(1) countries: case studies; other Article 5(1) country chiller data.
