Résumé

Air source heat pump water heaters (ASHPWH) are becoming increasingly popular and enable energy savings, environmental protection and high security. Most ASHPWHs require the pump to circulate water from the storage tank through the heat pump condenser for water heating. The design reported in this study was to insert the condenser coil into the tank of water for heating purposes without any major change in current tank design. Therefore, the water temperature distribution within the tank is an important parameter for an ASHPWH. This paper presented a mathematic model for a cylindrical water tank with a screw condenser coil. CFD software package, FLUENT, was used to study hot water temperature distribution in the tank of the ASHPWH. Results of the CFD modeling agreed closely with the testing data. In addition, the effects of the physical dimension of condenser coil and tank on water temperature flied were discussed. This work could be used in the optimization of condenser coil and tank design.
