Résumé

The current increase in energy demand related to space cooling is reaching alarming levels. Sorption chillers are thermally driven chillers that represent an alternative to make use of low-temperature (50-120°C) renewable (e.g., solar or geothermal) or waste heat, but also to better balance the energy flows through the reduction of the load on the saturated electrical grid. The present work offers a review on the sorption chillers for low-temperature heat sources (absorption chillers, adsorption chillers, and DEC systems) and their advantages and disadvantages depending on the application. A special focus is made on the developments of commercial interest (ab/adsorbents and working pairs) and the performance comparison of the different technologies. The main objective is to provide a global overview and the perspectives of these systems that will receive increasing attention in the coming years.
